Health insurance may provide coverage for massages that are medically necessary or prescribed by your health provider. But even when health insurance covers massage, there may be a limit or maximum amount payable during a policy term.

Soak Spa can fill out a Blue Bill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement for your massage session with us.

Massage Therapy is eligible for reimbursement through most FSA's and HSA's. Some do require a Letter of Medical Necessity from your doctor, but this means you can potentially be reimbursed from your insurance for your massage from us! You just need a note from your primary care physician.

It's not unusual to feel some soreness after a massage. This is due to a release of lactic acid in the muscles, but it doesn't last long. You may also have some discomfort during your massage. This depends on the area we're working on, any pre-existing pains, and whether the therapist is using a lot more pressure. In which case, refer to question #7! You can always ask the therapist to use less pressure at any time if it’s too uncomfortable.

No! All our therapists will ask you to remove clothing only as far as you feel comfortable. If you’re only comfortable undressing to your underwear, that's totally fine.

The therapist will leave the room while you're undressing and will provide sheets and blankets to cover you during the massage. A few select massages can be performed while fully clothed, discuss this option with us before you book.

We’re all beautiful humans but sometimes we may think parts of our bodies are embarrassing or we have self doubt. We understand that some areas of concern may include:

Unwanted or unruly body hair, weight in certain areas, scars of any kind, acne or other skin blemishes etc…

Please don't let this stop you from getting help from a massage therapist, skin therapist or energy practitioner. If you're sensitive about a particular area, ask them to avoid it. You can also opt for a fully clothed massage, facial or try one of our foot soaks with massage in which you are fully clothed at all times. Whatever your concerns, know that the therapists are friendly, professionally trained, supportive and judgment-free.

Massage therapy is a great natural solution when you want relief from pain, but it can also be used as a preventive treatment. Seeing a massage therapist regularly can help:

Lower cortisol and raise serotonin levels to calm and relax your body, loosen tight muscles and fascia, which may increase blood flow and potentially help with blood pressure. Of course, always consult your physician before beginning any new treatment.

Often, depending on what you are seeing your LMT for, they may use a different technique or massage modality. There are many examples of different massage therapies, including Swedish Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Connective Tissue Therapy, Deep Tissue Therapy, Sports Massage, Joint Mobilization, or Stone Therapy.

It's normal to fall asleep during a massage, facial or other spa service. You might be feeling stressed and sleep-deprived, so falling asleep is normal once you're in a relaxed state. There's zero judgment from us if you snore. We're pleased you're relaxed enough to fall asleep, and we won’t ever mention it. Drooling is also common, especially if you're laying face down with your head in the face cradle. Ask us for a tissue, and we'll be glad to grab one for you.

We'll ask you to fill out a Client Intake form thoroughly to let us know about any and all health conditions, current concerns about pain or mobility or goals you want to achieve with massage therapy. We'll then give you privacy to make yourself comfortable – whether you decide to remove your clothing or not. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask them.

Massage is excellent for relaxation! But it also has many other benefits. Massage helps with chronic muscle aches and pains. It helps to reduce stress and ease muscle tension. It's also great to improve circulation, alleviate breathing problems, lower your blood pressure, reduce headaches, improve your daily mobility and wellbeing, and help you manage anxiety and depression. Massage also helps to promote good, healthy sleep. (see question above about sleeping!)

Yes! Our highly trained massage therapists will check in with you during your massage to make sure the pressure is okay. Be mindful that massage doesn't have to cause you pain to be effective. Some massage techniques are very gentle and fluid. Always speak up and ask your therapist if you'd like more or less pressure during your session.
We won't be offended!

We recommend going to the bathroom before your session, but it can occasionally happen that you'll need to go during the massage or spa service. We want you to be relaxed, so if you're focusing on holding it in, it’ll interfere with your experience. So do speak up, and we'll let you know where the bathroom is. We have robes in each room if needed.

When you're in a relaxed state, you might pass gas during your massage. It may even occur when the therapist applies direct pressure to a particular area. Our massage therapists will let you know this is normal and just shows you're relaxed. You'll get zero judgment from your therapist. If you can't bear to let it happen, just excuse yourself to go to the bathroom.

Some people prefer to chat a bit during their massage session but don't feel you have to make conversation. Our service rooms are relatively quiet but please be mindful of loud voices so as not to disturb other guests that are receiving a treatment. Closing your eyes to relax is highly recommended.

Be sure to speak up if:

• You're feeling hot or cold
• You're in pain
• You have questions, or you forgot to mention something important during the consultation

Let your massage therapist know before your session. They can use firm, slow pressure or, if you're extremely sensitive, they can avoid your ticklish areas.

Typically, after receiving a massage, facial, body treatment or foot soak with massage many toxins will be released and they need to be flushed out. We always recommend drinking water after your session which naturally detoxifies the body of toxins and helps flush out the lymph system with lactic acid buildup. Our therapists are helping to release tension, stagnation and knots in the muscle tissues by using pressure to help alleviate pain in those areas. This helps return much-needed blood flow back to those muscles. You may be slightly sore the next day or two after receiving a therapeutic session which is due to some possible inflammation in the area which typically heals pretty quickly. We recommend waiting a few hours after a massage, facial or body session and then taking a hot bath with epsom salts to relieve any muscle tension you may be experiencing.

The answer to this question depends entirely upon you and your current situation. We all live very stressful and hectic lives at times which places strain and tension on our muscles, bodies, feet and our skin. When we don’t spend enough time helping our bodies recover, these stressors continue to build up, leading to limited mobility, injuries from repetitive movements and less vitality.

We highly recommend receiving a massage before the pain or restriction you are experiencing becomes acute. A regular therapeutic or relaxing massage can help you avoid serious pain, chronic headaches, emotional imbalances or can prevent injuries from happening. If you are noticing muscle pain and tension on a daily basis, frequent massage on a weekly basis may be suggested until the pain has lessened.

No, Soak Spa does not allow alcohol of any kind to be brought into the spa. Our services provide a sense of deep relaxation, while alcohol has a numbing effect on your senses, making you less able to fully experience your session with us!

Can I have a drink before/after my appointment? We do not recommend drinking before your appointment, and will refuse service to anyone who is visibly drunk. There are many reasons not to combine alcohol and massage. Alcohol is dehydrating, and also causes your blood vessels to dilate, which moves the alcohol through your bloodstream. When combined with massage, which also increases circulation, the alcohol moves through your bloodstream more quickly, which intensifies drunkenness. This also leads to much worse hangovers!
